To be the lighthouse guiding the
'Grand Voyage of the Islands'
Greetings!
On behalf of the Korea Island Development Institute(KIDI), it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website.
KIDI is a national policy research institute.
KIDI was established to promote the values of the islands through systematic research, to enhance the lives of the islanders, and to develop island policy for identifying the future growth engines.
The inauguration of KIDI on 8th October 2021 signifies the changes in Korea's island policy. It indicates that the islands of Korea and its island policy have entered an era of new opportunities and challenges.
Korea lies on a peninsula, and it is an archipelago. However, the low quality of the residential environment has accelerated the islanders' migration, leading to the rapid decline of the number of inhabited islands.
KIDI seeks to diagnose the real needs of islanders, supports making empirical policies for islands, and devotes itself to making the islands a desirable place to live or visit.
Korea has 3382 islands and was once a maritime power nation. Islands are not the boundaries of our nations; they are the starting points towards the world.
We have the vision of contributing to 'Islands bridging to the future, sailing towards the world' and wish to be one of the most outstanding island research institutes in the world, guiding the 'Grand Voyage of the Islands'
We hope to exceed your expectations at all levels.
Sincerely,
